A perfect retreat site in Spain
article from the World Family Yoga newsletter, autumn 2007
¡Hola!
Christine has found us the most perfect retreat site in Spain! We will
be at Sakya Tashi Ling’s Tibetan Buddhist Monastery just outside of
Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain The Monasterio de Garraf is housed in
Palau Novella, a Modernist palace built by an eccentric at the turn of
the twentieth century. It became a monastery and museum of Tibetan
Buddhist art less then 15 years ago.
The residing Rinpoche is Spanish, one of the only Spanish speaking
Lamas in the world today. In July, we will be sharing the palace with
the Ven. Lama Jamyang Tashi Dorje Rinpoché and the residing monks, who
you may have heard chanting on their last internationally renowned CD
of mantras, titled "Monjes Budistas Sakya Tashi Ling".
We have access
to their
extraordinary gardens and can participate in their daily meditations
and teachings if desired. Their prestigious museum with an enormous
collection of Tangkas and statues will be open to us as well, as we and
our children will be invited to create our own mandalas and sacred art
with monetary staff.
The palace rests in the hills of the natural reserve called Garraf, a
30 minute drive from the center of Barcelona, quiet, meditative
landscape, 15 minutes from the beaches of Casteldefells and the
colorful, town of Sitges, a perfect place to focus on our daily yoga
practice.
We
will organize day trips to the fascinating sites of Barcelona: all
of Gaudi's architecture including the Sacred Family Cathedral and his
"melting" houses, the Pablo Picasso museum, the romantic and lively
"ramblas," one could spend weeks in Barcelona and never be bored.
It is a jewel of a city. And we will be housed in one of it's most
honored homes, the Monasterio de Garraf. We hope you can join us!
